Educational Objectives

The overall goal of Geometry of Space Navigation is to facilitate student development of skills in geometry by providing a relevant and inspiring context.

Performance Objectives

In this learning package students will:

  • identify, describe, compare, and classify geometric figures;
  • solve problems applying geometric reasoning;
  • understand the concepts of symmetry and congruency;
  • investigate the attributes of two-dimensional shapes;
  • use language effectively to describe geometric concepts, reasoning, and investigations.

Links to Common Frameworks of Science Learning Objectives

These outcomes from the Pan Canadian Protocol &150; Common Framework of Science Learning Outcomes are integrated into each phase of Geometry of Space Navigation. They reflect the learning outcomes for students by the end of grade 6.

STSE :
Nature of science and technology
104-6
demonstrate that specific terminology is used in science and technology contexts
104-7
demonstrate the importance of using the languages of science and technology to communicate ideas, processes, and results
STSE :
Relationships between science and technology
106-1
describe examples of tools and techniques that enhance our ability to gather data and information about the world
STSE :

STSE :
Communication and teamwork
207-1
communicate questions, ideas, and intentions, and listen to others while conducting investigations
207-2
communicate procedures and results, using lists, notes in point form, sentences, charts, graphs, drawings, and oral language
207-3
work with team members to develop and carry out a plan
207-4
