Phase 4 - Docking Challenge

Docking Challenge

Teacher Notes

  1. This activity should be completed in small groups.

  2. Students should be encouraged to be creative in the design of the model, but accuracy of information is important.

  3. The suggested completion time is 30-45 minutes. Additional time for presentations is required. It is recommended that students be provided with a suggested time for the presentation. Approximately 5 minutes is recommended.

  4. As in any cooperative learning task, individual accountability must be incorporated.

  5. An assessment rubric accompanies this activity.

Docking Challenge

Purpose:

As part of your training, your Junior Space Explorer team must convince a panel of experts at Mission Control that you understand the docking process.

Requirements:

  1. Your team must plan, prepare, and deliver an oral presentation.
  2. You must use a model you construct to illustrate the docking process.
  3. You must incorporate an explanation of symmetry and at least one example related to the docking process.

Procedure:

  1. Plan your presentation: be creative and accurate.
  2. Assign tasks.
  3. Rehearse your presentation.
  4. Convince the panel of experts.
