Canadian Snacks for Space

Suggest your snack

Contest ends on August 31, 2011.

Canada, tell us what you like to eat!

Just as we do on Earth, when astronauts in space get together for meals, they talk about their day and tell stories about their homeland through the foods they share. While Canadian astronauts Julie Payette and Robert Thirsk were in space in 2009, they shared a Canadian meal with their crewmates from around the world. (See past Canadian items flown). Local foods can tell the story of the diverse regions of our vast country.

Now you can help astronaut Chris Hadfield bring some Canadian treats to space with him.

What's your favourite Canadian fare? Do you know of a one-of-a-kind snack that is unique to your region?

Nominate your local Canadian food and tell us why you love it. Your nomination along with your story will be featured on our website.

Chris will then select the Canadian treats that will be part of his space mission menu.

If your submission is selected, you will receive a photograph of the astronauts eating your food in space and a call from Chris himself.

Keep in mind that the International Space Station doesn't have a refrigerator to keep food fresh, so your pick must have a long shelf-life. Dried, canned or dehydrated food is ideal. The food you nominate must comply with specifid criteria to make it to space. Read the Contest's rules carefully.

Send us the name of your food item, where it was purchased and why you are suggesting it. We want to hear why you love it! Send as many suggestions as you like!

Be part of Chris' mission!
